Galapagos Islands

Located 1,000 km from the Ecuadorian mainland, the Galapagos Islands consist of 15 main islands and hundreds of tiny ones, created by volcanic activity up to four million years ago which continues periodically today. UNESCO named the Galapagos Islands a world heritage site as the rich flora and fauna found there have been admired and studied by numerous travelers, scientist, and nature-lovers. In 1835, Charles Darwin spent six weeks studying the islands' unique animal and bird life and published these observations in his book The Origin of Species. Famed for unique animal and bird life, the Galapagos Islands is home to the likes of giant tortoises, blue-footed boobies, penguins, marine iguanas, waved albatrosses, flightless cormorants and magnificent frigate birds. A popular way to explore this fascinating destination is by luxury catamaran. It is common for those travelling to the Galapagos Islands to also visit Machu Picchu http://www.visitperu.com/ciudades_ing/cusco.html in Cuzco, Peru. The 220 stone temples and buildings of Machu Picchu are perched on a narrow ridge of the Andes at 9,000 feet altitude and are noted for engineering skill and fine craftsmanship. These 15th-century ruins are often referred to as the "Lost City of the Incas".
