Ever wonder how Wells Gray Tours plans your next adventure?

Ever wonder how Wells Gray Tours plans your next adventure?

A big part of our planning takes place at the annual National Tour Association convention where attendees from 32 countries meet to exchange knowledge about destinations, hotels, restaurants, theatres and attractions.  Last week, five of the Wells Gray Tours team, Roland Neave, Fraser Neave, Shane Stevens, Joan Niemeier and Kerrie Niemeier spent a week in Los Angeles, meeting with colleagues from around the world to explore future tour itineraries. Highlights of the convention were evening visits to Universal Studios, Hollywood homes, the downtown Farmers Market and the J. Paul Getty Museum.

Feeling adventurous and wondering how easy it would be for our guests to get around Los Angeles, Roland and Joan rode the LA metro system and found it to be easy, affordable and a trip from downtown LA to Hollywood was a short comfortable ride. It was much better than sitting in freeway traffic for an hour.

In addition to the appointments with industry colleagues, the host city plans three- or four-day familiarization tours so that attendees may gain first hand experiences with hotels, restaurants and attractions in the surrounding areas.

Along with friends in the travel industry Roland toured areas north of Los Angeles. At a cooking class, he created a delicious pie (with coaching from the chef), did whale watching around the Channel Islands, and strolled the beaches of Ventura. Fraser and Shane travelled by catamaran to Catalina Island and enjoyed zip-lining and kayaking. Joan toured Sunnylands, the US President’s western retreat in Rancho Mirage, and Palm Springs.

“Sunny” California is an exciting and desirable destination to visit.  It is known for world class wines, a thriving food scene, good shopping,  and dramatic landscapes ranging from beautiful beaches to deserts and redwood forests.
