Colourful Canyonlands

There is magic in the colourful landscapes of the National Parks in Utah and Arizona.  The area is a kaleidoscope of constantly changing colours and dramatic scenery.  I was just a child when I visited Bryce and Zion for the first time but vividly remember feeling that the colourful canyon walls were changing right before my eyes as the daylight danced across the cliffs and valleys.  There is no journey taken that does not change you in some way and for me on my first trip to this area it was the magic of Mother Nature’s creation that has stayed with me through the years.

I have revisited the area several times as an adult, spending time hiking in ArchesPark and MonumentValley, Bryce and Zion.  I have had the pleasure to travel by boat on the Colorado and GreenRivers and enjoyed the Canyonlands by night.  Every time I go to any of these parks I am reminded that the canyons are living landscapes that are constantly changing with each season as they are eroded by wind, rain and snow.

This year’s tour to the Colourful Canyonlands is one that I highly recommend for all those who love and are inspired by natural landscapes and dramatic scenery.  The tour which travels from the Okanagan to the National Parks by coach and flies home has something for everyone.  In addition to the natural beauty of the area there is time in Salt Lake City to enjoy a 30 minute program of song and music by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, time to shop in the Temple Square or visit the world’s largest family history library in the world.  In Moab you will enjoy the spectacular multi-media show called “Canyonlands by Night” a must see production while in this area.  ArchesNational Park with the world’s finest collection of natural rock arches provides limitless photographic opportunities.  Be sure to take a number of photos as clouds, and the angle of the sun can drastically affect the dramatic colours and the texture of the rock formations.

A river cruise on LakePowel is bound to be another highlight on this tour. This reservoir on the Colorado River, straddling the border between Utah and Arizona is the second largest man-made reservoir in the US.  The dramatic canyon walls of the lake against the blue waters are breathtaking and it is not surprising that this recreational area draws over 2 million visitors annually.

We go from Mother Nature’s specular scenery to the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas where we will stay one before your flight home.  Take time to enjoy a bit of lady luck, shop or take in some Vegas styled entertainment.  Wells Gray Tours staff will be happy to assist you with advanced reservations for shows so that you get the most out of your day here.
