Newfoundland is a large island located in the Atlantic Ocean off the eastern coast of Canada. It is the 15th largest island in the world. Together with Labrador it makes up one of the four provinces of Atlantic Canada. Vikings first landed here 1,000 years ago. It joined confederation in 1949. The capital city is St.John’s. It has a long and colourful history and has a relatively small population in the 500,000 mark. It is a land of rich history and natural wonders. The landscape is as vast as it is varied. From rugged coastlines to arctic tundra, ancient mountains to lush boreal forests, green meadows and marshes this province has it all. The air is clean and fresh, no smog here. It has a fairly temperate marine climate and the people of Newfoundland love to talk about the weather as it changes from hour to hour and can be as spontaneous as the friendly outgoing people you will meet there.
