Exciting New Tours from the Spring Travel Show

We’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our virtual Spring Travel Show earlier this month. We were excited to share our 2022 and 2023 tours with so many eager travellers. If you missed it, don’t worry! You can watch the recording here.

From local getaways in BC to adventures in exotic destinations around the globe – there really is something for everyone! Here are a few of the tours we are the most excited about:

50th Anniversary Tour to Wells Gray Park – May & June departures

Travel back to the roots of Wells Gray Tours with the founder, Roland Neave.

Roland Neave was a student at Cariboo College (now Thompson Rivers University) in 1972 when he and his classmates offered bus tours of Wells Gray Park to urge residents to protest a series of planned BC Hydro dams on the Clearwater River. Their strategy succeeded in creating an uproar of protest. Within a year, the plan to dam the Clearwater River was quietly shelved but the tours were so popular that Roland and his friends continued offering them in the summers. They eventually expanded to include more tour destinations and 50 years later Wells Gray Tours is BC’s largest outbound tour company offering group holidays all over the world.

On this three-day tour Roland will personally show you the highlights of spectacular Wells Gray Park including many of the beautiful waterfalls that give it the nickname of “Canada’s Waterfall Park.” You will also enjoy a boat tour on Clearwater Lake, a typical 1972 picnic lunch, and a nostalgic 70s themed celebration dinner.

This tour has four departures in May and June which are almost completely sold out. There are only a handful of seats left on the June 3rd departure, so act quickly if you want to join us.

51st Anniversary Cruise on the Duoro River – May 14, 2023 – 16 Days

For our 51st Anniversary in 2023 we will board the Emerald Radiance to cruise the beautiful Douro River in Portugal. This intimate ship carries only 112 passengers and will be reserved exclusively for Wells Gray Tours guests.

The tour begins with four nights in Lisbon, the cosmopolitan capital of Portugal, then travels up the coast to Porto at the mouth of the Douro River. The 7-day cruise has many wonderful experiences such as the charming baroque village of Lamego, Spain’s walled city of Salamanca, learning about Portugese cooking or Port Wine, strolling through vineyards, or absorbing Portugal’s fascinating history. What a way to celebrate Wells Gray Tours’ 51st Anniversary!

This unique tour was so popular that it sold out in just few weeks! Contact us if you’d like to be placed on the waitlist.

Adventures Around the Globe

With Covid-19 regulations easing around the world, we are excited to finally be able to offer some the tours that had to be rescheduled. Here are a few of the tours we are excited about for 2022 & 2023:

A Taste of Italy – October 7, 2022 – 19 Days

There is so much to see and experience in Italy and this tour covers many highlights of the northern half of the country such as the great cities of Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome, and Naples. When thinking of Italy, food and wine is one of the first images to come to mind and this tour has a large food component, including a Tuscan cooking class, several wine tours, and tours of local food producers. But you can’t forget Venice with its canals, Rialto Bridge, and Piazza San Marco; the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Accademia with Michelangelo’s sculpture of David, the landmarks of Rome with its Colosseum, Forum, and the Sistine Chapel murals; the buried city of Pompeii, and the idyllic countryside in Tuscany filled with farms, castles, and wineries. This intimate tour will be limited to only 25 guests.

Egypt & Jordan – November 4, 2022 – 20 Days

The ancient lands of Egypt and Jordan are a world of wonder—a window to a long past age of extravagance, massive wealth, and ample acts of tribute. No place has the magic, mystery, and pleasures of Egypt. Some of the highlights include: Pyramids of Giza and The Sphinx, the new Grand Egyptian Museum, the Temples of Abu Simbel, a motorboat tour of the Aswan islands, a camel ride in the Nubian Desert, a sailing tour on a classical felucca boat, the Botanical Garden at Kitchener Island, and a Nile River cruise from Aswan to Luxor for 3 nights. Highlights in Jordan are a guided tour of awe-inspiring Petra, a cooking class, 2 nights at an eco-lodge, the capital of Amman, and a float in the Dead Sea. With only 25 travellers on this tour you will be able to see and do things large groups cannot. Roland and Anne are booked on this tour as guests and are excited to share this new tour with you!

Antarctica, Argentina & Chile Cruise – January 29, 2023 – 30 Days

Wells Gray Tours only offers this special opportunity to visit the 7th continent every few years and we know it is on many people’s bucket lists. There are so many highlights on this tour, but the most astounding will likely be the four days cruising among the gigantic icebergs of Antarctica. On-board experts will present lectures about glaciers, geology, natural history, and history, plus the ice pilot may take a break from the bridge to explain his route-finding skills. Other memorable experiences include elegant Buenos Aires, awesome Iguazu Falls, the isolated Falkland Islands, the thrill of rounding Cape Horn, the End of the World Steam Train excursion at Ushuaia, the Chilean Fjords, Darwin Channel, Glacier Alley, and the vast Amalia Glacier. There are only 4 staterooms left on this tour, so book soon to avoid disappointment.
