Holiday Gift Guide Part 2: Last Minute Gifts for Travellers

We’re counting down the days until Christmas and hopefully you’ve already finished most of your shopping. If you’re still looking for that perfect gift for a hard-to-shop-for traveller on your list, here are a few suggestions for things you should be able to find in time for the big day—either online or at a local retailer.

Travel Magazine Subscription

Since we can’t be out exploring the world on our own, reading about it is the next best thing. There are so many fantastic travel magazines to choose from. We like Travel and Leisure, National Geographic, Condé Nast Traveler, and AFAR. Or you could gift them an Apple News+ subscription for $12.99/month and they could enjoy these four magazines plus over 200 others on their apple device.

A Guidebook for Trips in Their Own Backyard

Since we don’t know when international travel might be a possibility, why not plan some trips closer to home. These two Canadian guidebooks have some great suggestions for things that are off the beaten track but still within our own country.

The Great Western Canada Bucket List by Robin Esrock highlights the best travel experiences on Canada’s West Coast. Through nature, food, culture, and history, as well as a few adrenaline rushes and some quirky Canadiana, Robin’s personal quest to tick off the very best of Alberta and British Columbia packs in enough adventure for a lifetime.

It sounds like many of us re-discovered the fun of a road trip this summer and fall. If you know someone who loves the freedom of the open road, they will love Canada’s Best Trips by Lonely Planet. It features some amazing road trips and advice for the destinations you’ll visit along the way. From the Sea to Sky Highway to the Cabot Trail, this guidebook has suggested routes across Canada. Jump in the car, turn up the tunes, and hit the road!

Kindle Paperwhite

If you can’t choose just one book, you can still give the bibliophile on your list the gift of reading with the latest Kindle e-reader. The Kindle Paperwhite can be used for over a month on a single battery charge and holds thousands of books. This version is light, waterproof (hello fellow bath readers!) and allows you to read in any light, even bright sunlight. This gift will be useful now when we’re spending more time at home reading but will also come in handy when we’re ready to get back on the road. Bring as many books as you want without worrying if they’ll fit in your suitcase.

Stojo Collapsible Coffee Mug

The Stojo Pocket Cup is an ultra-portable, leak-proof, collapsible, and reusable coffee mug available in four sizes ranging from 8oz to 24oz. It’s a convenient alternative to bulky travel mugs and better for the environment than disposable cups. I received one of these as a gift last Christmas and I love it for using at home and on trips. It folds down small enough to put into a jacket pocket or purse and is easy to wash in the dishwasher.

Snacks of the World

Is there someone on your list whose favourite part of travel is trying new and unusual foods? Then why not buy them the gift that keeps on giving with an international food subscription box. Here are a couple of options:

Universal Yums is a subscription snack box that features a variety of sweet and savoury snacks from a different country each month (past countries have included Russia, Colombia, Egypt, Thailand, the UK and more!) There are three different sized boxes to choose from and you can give a 1, 3, 6, or 12-month subscription.

If you’re looking for something more specific, check out Crate Joy. With over 280 different food, snack, and beverage subscription boxes to choose from, you’re sure to find something for the foodie on your list. Are they crazy for Japanese treats? Then sign them up for Tanoshi Me Box. Or maybe they’re longing for the swaying palms of Hawaii? They might love the Hawaii Coffee Box. There are a ton of great options for everyone.

Give the Gift of Travel

If none of these ideas sounds right to you, why not give the gift of future travel with a Wells Gray Tours gift certificate? Our gift certificates never expire and can be used for any future tours. Just give us a call and we can make up a gift certificate for any denomination.

Happy Shopping!
