Key Ingredients for the Perfect Girls Getaway

With a large group of close girlfriends, I’ve organized and attended my fair share of ladies weekend trips—everything from bachelorette parties, to birthday trips, summer getaways, and ski holidays. Now that my best friends are scattered around the world, these trips are even more important (and fun!) than ever. Along the way, I’ve discovered there are a few key ingredients to planning a ladies weekend to remember:

Plan as far in advance as possible

With jobs, kids, aging parents, and pets in the mix, it can be next-to-impossible to get everyone in the same place at the same time. To get as many people on board as possible, try to plan your trip as far in advance as you can. It might seem crazy to plan a trip two or three years ahead of time, but the secret is to get the trip in your calendar before other commitments arise. It also makes finding accommodations and booking activities for a group much easier.

Agree on a budget before you plan anything

It’s no fun to be worried about money while you’re supposed to be enjoying a holiday. Agreeing on a budget that works for everyone and being upfront about all the costs is critical. This will make settling up at the end of the trip a breeze.

Leave the organizing to 1 or 2 people

It can be frustrating and time-consuming to get a large group to agree on anything, but almost everyone is happy to go on a holiday they didn’t have to plan. Assign one or two key organizers for the entire trip, or select someone for each area of responsibility (lodging, transportation, food, activities, etc.) There will be less stress for the planners and the attendees.

Plan a few activities

It’s a good idea to have a few activities scheduled. Get active with a yoga class or walking tour. Learn something new at a cooking class or wine tasting. Or attend a concert or sporting event. Pick something you think the group might enjoy and remember that everything is more fun with friends.

But don’t forget to leave some downtime

One of the best parts of a getaway with your friends is just being together. Make sure to leave some time to relax and catch up as a group. Keep this in mind when you’re choosing accommodation too, because a comfortable area to spend time as a group is key.

Pamper yourselves

Massages, facials, hot springs—it doesn’t really matter which option you choose. There is something about pampering yourself that makes even a short trip feel like a getaway. Spoil yourselves with some self-care to get everyone in vacation mode ASAP.
