Experience the Old West!
Not having grown up in BC, I feel so lucky to be living in this beautiful province that has been so suitably branded, as Super, Natural British Columbia for over thirty years. No matter where you travel in BC, you are never far from the awe-inspiring natural beauty that is still enticing residents and travellers to get out and explore.
Wells Gray Tours loves BC and plans numerous tours throughout our province to showcase its history, diverse geography, wildlife and cityscapes. Coming up, we have a great tour that keeps you close to home and is filled with scenery and experiences.
Barkerville & Sun Peaks in July for 5 days from the Interior and Barkerville and Wells Gray Park in July for 6 days from Victoria.
The Old West and a luxury resort are the perfect combination on this tour. Our drive north will include lunch at the historic Ashcroft Manor. Built in 1862, it was a stopping place for Gold Rush travellers and today is one of the oldest surviving buildings in our province.
Continuing north, we will drive through beautiful scenery bordering both sides of the Cariboo Highway before arriving for a two night stay in Quesnel. To make your visit to Barkerville special, we will have an expert historian joining us for the drive. Did you know that Governor James Douglas, sometimes called the “Father of British Columbia”, was a key figure in Barkerville’s early years? Would you believe that today our guide’s name is also James Douglas?!
You can’t visit Barkerville without trying your hand at gold panning and getting a firsthand experience at sloshing around sand and water in hopes of finding a golden nugget!
The Royal Threatre in Barkerville hosts The McGinley Family Troupe Musical Revue. This is a wonderful medley of song and dance and an excellent finale to your time here.
The Interior tour will stay at Sun Peaks Resort, in the beautiful Sun Peaks Grand Hotel. Located near shops and restaurants it has indoor and outdoor pools. You may choose to wander the village or simply relax. Included is a ride on the Sunburst chair that will take you to alpine meadows, colourful with wild flowers and panoramic views. There will be time to enjoy a resort activity such as; a round of golf, hiking, horseback riding or soothing yourself in the hot pools.
The Victoria tour will explore Wells Gray Park with the guidance of Roland Neave, park expert, author of Exploring Wells Gray Park, and owner and founder of Wells Gray Tours. A complimentary copy of the 6th edition of Roland’s book is provided as a souvenir of your visit.
