The 6 New Tours We’re Most Excited About

Despite the current travel restrictions and need to stay home, our planning team, Roland and Fraser, are still hard at work developing tours for when we’re able to travel safely. We’re all eager to travel again and we’ll be ready to take you to some exciting new destinations once it is safe. Here are the new tours Roland and Fraser are most excited to share with you for late 2021 and 2022:

Mystery Tour
September 5, 2021 – 10 days

This fall we’re excited to offer our 58th Mystery Tour since 1985. Over the past 36 years, our popular Mystery Tours have generally been offered twice a year and have taken curious customers to destinations all over Canada, the USA, and even to international destinations like Iceland and Costa Rica. We never tell you where you’re going or what you’ll see (we do tell you if you need a passport and what to bring) and each day of the tour includes surprises, as the mystery route is revealed day-by-day as we travel. This tour is one of Roland’s favourites every year. He says, “I almost always direct our mystery tours because it is a lot of fun writing those devious clues and then playing the game throughout the tour where people will try to guess where they are going. We never go to a place that Wells Gray frequently visits and usually it is a brand-new itinerary which I find exciting to explore.”

Oktoberfest in Leavenworth
October 15, 2021 – 4 Days

Leavenworth is extremely proud of its Bavarian heritage, as evidenced by the architecture, food, and culture on display all year round. But there is no better time to visit than Oktoberfest. The Leavenworth event is ranked as one of the top Oktoberfest celebrations in the United States. Fraser explains, “I have tried for quite a few years to get a block of rooms at the beloved Enzian Inn in Leavenworth for one of the famous Oktoberfest weekends, but they have always told me ‘no’ because demand was through the roof. I contacted them last month and was surprised when they finally said ‘yes’! We now have our first Oktoberfest in Leavenworth tour in 12 years.” The tour includes three nights accommodation near Leavenworth’s town square and convenient to the shops. We have tickets for two evenings and one afternoon at Oktoberfest with entertainment at several venues. Don’t miss this year as we aren’t sure if this tour will be available again.

Egypt and Jordan
November 5, 2021 – 20 Days

The ancient lands of Egypt and Jordan are a world of wonder—a window to a long past age of extravagance, massive wealth, and ample acts of tribute. No place has the magic, mystery, and pleasures of Egypt. Roland says, “I got a taste of Egypt in 2013 on our first Presidents’ Cruise, but we visited only Cairo and Alexandria. This tour covers so many wonders of Egypt with a cruise on the Nile then spends 8 days in Jordan with famous sites like Petra. My wife Anne and I are going on this tour, but I haven’t decided if I will be tour director or call it a holiday.” Some of the other fantastic highlights on this tour include the Pyramids of Giza and The Sphinx, the Temples of Abu Simbel, a camel ride in the Nubian Desert, a sailing tour on a classical felucca boat, a cooking class, and a float in the Dead Sea!

Suez Canal Cruise
February 2022

Join us in 2022 as we experience one of the world’s engineering marvels – The Suez Canal. This incredible waterway was completed in 1869 to connect the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea, eliminating the need for ships to sail around Africa to reach South Asia. Few manmade waterways are so storied and iconic, and sailing the length of it is a bucket list item for many explorers. Roland is very excited about this itinerary and says, “Almost everybody has sailed through the Panama Canal, but the Suez Canal is much less visited and those are the kind of itineraries that really appeal to me. This tour flies to Dubai, then boards Norwegian Jade for an 18-day cruise to Athens with stops at Abu Dhabi, UAE; Aqaba, Jordan; Safaga, Egypt; Ashdod and Haifa, Israel; Cyprus and Rhodes. I have been to some of these places but was especially wowed by Dubai.” Get on our interested list soon as we hope to release this tour in March.

Tahiti Cruise
Early Spring 2022

Fraser says, “We’re always scanning the globe for places we haven’t been yet. A term Roland uses often to describe the places we’re looking for is ‘exotic’ and this one certainly fits the bill.” Does anything conjure the idea of luxurious relaxation more than the crystal-clear blue water, white sand, and swaying palms more than Tahiti? When we discussed the possibility of this destination at our annual planning session in 2020, our team gave it an enthusiastic two thumbs up. This Tahiti cruise will be with Oceania on one of their beautiful small ships and will stop at several French Polynesian islands, including Bora Bora!

World War 2 History Tour
May/June 2022

Calling all history buffs! We’re very excited to offer this brand-new WW2 history tour in 2022. Fraser says, “In 2018, our tour to Vimy Ridge for the WW1 Centennial was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The feedback we received was that the tour was a captivating and emotionally moving experience. In the coming months, I’ll be working on our 2022 tour that will focus on the Canadian involvement in World War 2, including the D-Day landing at Juno Beach, the taking of Caen, and the drive south.” Just as our 2018 WW1 tour culminated with the ceremony at Vimy Ridge on November 11th, this WW2 tour will finish with the D-Day Ceremony at Juno Beach on June 6th.
