Joan Niemeier, Director of Sales & Marketing at Wells Gray Tours, recently joined 230 other tourism industry volunteers in Pensacola, Florida, to clean-up and restore the Pensacola Lighthouse. The project was coordinated by Tourism Cares, a non-profit organization of travel professionals dedicated to the preservation of the travel experience for the benefit of tomorrow’s travelers. This is the fourth Tourism Cares restoration project Niemeier has worked on and she finds it very rewarding to help preserve heritage sites. “We are tourism professionals that come from all over North America,” says Niemeier. “We give our time and energy to help ensure that historical sites and their stories are there for future generations.”
