ACTIVITY LEVEL
Level
Moderate activity: As a traveller you like a variety of activities and walking up to 2 km with breaks such as a guided walking tour is very doable for you without assistance. You can stand for prolonged periods, negotiate a variety of terrain including boardwalks and moderate hills comfortably, and can climb two flights of stairs without assistance. The Malahat Skywalk spiral ramp ascends 20 metres. There are many stairs at Squamish Canyon but you can sit out at the Forest Lounge on site if preferred.
You may bring a cane or walking poles if needed. This tour is not appropriate for people who require the use of a walker. The coaches cannot carry a scooter or motorized wheelchair. The tour director and driver have many responsibilities, so please do not expect them, or your fellow travellers, to provide ongoing assistance. If you are not capable of keeping up with the group or require frequent assistance, the tour director may stop you from participating in some activities or some days of the tour. In extreme situations, you may be required to leave the tour and travel home at your own expense; travel insurance will probably not cover you.

Fairmont Hotel Vancouver: Opened in 1939 at a cost of $12 million, it became a downtown landmark with its copper green roof and a height of 17 storeys. A $75 million renovation was completed in 2019 and brought this magnificent hotel back to ranking among the finest in Vancouver. It has a terrific location for shoppers, the adjacent Vancouver Art Gallery, or many restaurants along Robson Street.
-
Fairmont Empress: The Empress story began in the early 1900s when Canadian Pacific Railway had a dream to build chateau-style hotels across Canada to accommodate their affluent steamship and rail clients. Not just any hotels though; they needed to be in iconic locations and in communities that showcased Canada’s breathtaking and diverse landscapes. Celebrated architect Francis Rattenbury was hired to make this dream a reality in Victoria. Construction began in 1904 and The Empress opened four years later, named after Queen Victoria who, during the last decade of her reign, was also the Empress of India. The city of Victoria literally grew up around the stunning Empress which has been at the social and business centre of this city since it opened. The Empress was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1981 and became a Fairmont Hotel in 1999. The hotel sits on what was formerly known as James Bay, a watery, muddy slough, supported by hundreds of pilings driven into the seabed. Its history and major renovations have placed The Empress on the list of the 21 Most Iconic Hotels in the World and the Best Historic Hotel in the Americas in 2020.
-
Fairmont Waterfront: Opened in 1991 at a cost of $120 million, it rises 20 storeys and has a stunning location by the harbour at Canada Place. Amenities are an outdoor heated pool, indoor whirlpool, fitness centre, and gift shop. The ARC restaurant and bar offer unique menus and dozens of restaurants are nearby. Pacific Centre Mall is two blocks away.
-
Fairmont Chateau Whistler:: In 1966, the Garibaldi Lift Company opened its ski area on Whistler Mountain. The development of Whistler Resort just 14 years later, and its growth into an award-winning, international resort, is unparalleled in ski history. To complement Whistler Mountain, Blackcomb Mountain opened in 1980, and Whistler Village was built at the base of these adjacent mountains. The Village was carefully designed to reap the benefits of the Coast Mountains' excellent geographical location, emphasizing sun exposure and mountain vistas. The Fairmont Chateau Whistler opened in 1989 at a cost of $50 million. The stunning structure was built with an architectural mandate to infuse the charm and style of earlier Canadian chateaux into a modern building. In 2023, $35 million was spent on a total renovation of its 539 rooms. The hotel offers several restaurants, complimentary shuttle into Whistler Village, health club, Vida Spa, and indoor/outdoor pools with hot tubs.

Please book early: Fairmont Hotels are very popular among business travellers and tourists. Some hotels have strict policies about our commitment to the number of rooms needed and will cancel rooms from our original reservation if they can sell the rooms to other visitors. If this happens, we have to consider the tour full, even though seats are available on the motorcoach. Therefore, waiting too long to book usually means “Sorry, wait until another year.” Upgrades at Fairmont hotels: If you prefer a fancier room or one with a better view, the upgrade cost of $90 per person double/twin and $175 single (plus GST) includes the following. All four upgrades are offered as a package and you cannot choose only one. • Hotel Vancouver - Fairmont to Deluxe • Empress Hotel - Fairmont to Deluxe City View • Waterfront Hotel - Deluxe Partial Harbour View to Signature Harbour View • Chateau Whistler - Fairmont to Deluxe View
