TOUR SUMMARY

A comprehensive tour of all four Atlantic Provinces

2026 will be the 49th year that Wells Gray has offered Maritimes tours! All our hotels, attractions, and restaurants are chosen carefully to ensure you have a memorable experience. We stay 10 nights in Newfoundland because we strongly believe you should see this scenic province while you are touring eastern Canada. It has been a highlight of our Atlantic Canada tours since 1990. Many hotel stays are for 2 or 3 nights, so you do not have the inconvenience of repacking your suitcase every morning. To reduce driving time, we fly to Halifax and return from St. John’s, NL. Come and see the wonderful Atlantic Provinces!

ACTIVITY LEVEL

Level

High Activity: You are an active traveller who wants to explore wherever you go. You don’t mind a mix of full days, early morning starts, and some late nights. You can walk longer distances, up to 4 km without difficulty which may be over uneven ground, beaches or shorelines; climb in and out of small boats without assistance; walk on docks which may have steep ramps at low tide; stand for prolonged periods; and climb 3 flights of stairs easily and unassisted. There is lots of walking at the Halifax Citadel, Peggy’s Cove, Lunenburg, King’s Landing, Fortress of Louisbourg, and the historic district of Charlottetown. There is a multi-storey flight of stairs down to the beach at Hopewell Rocks, but you can see the Rocks from the top. Expect walks of 3 blocks (15 mins each way) to and from the Grafton Theatre in Halifax and Confederation Centre in Charlottetown. You can decline to go on the Glace Bay underground mine tour. You will miss some attractions if you are unable to do this amount of activity. A few hotels do not have elevators. There can be long walks in the airports. Luggage handling may not be available at some hotels. Keep in mind that this is a 24-day tour which can be tiring.

This tour is not appropriate for people with canes, walkers, wheelchairs, or other mobility assistance devices; hiking poles are fine. Additionally, this tour is not appropriate for those who have cognitive impairments such as memory loss or confusion, difficulty expressing thoughts, repeating questions, or getting lost. The tour director and driver have many responsibilities, so please do not expect them, or your fellow travellers, to provide ongoing assistance. If you are not capable of keeping up with the group or require frequent assistance, the tour director may stop you from participating in some activities or some days of the tour. In extreme situations, you may be required to leave the tour and travel home at your own expense; travel insurance will probably not cover you.

Please note: Prior to accepting your booking, you will be required to sign a declaration that you are capable of travelling on an Activity Level 3 tour.

TOUR NOTES & POLICIES

  • Please book early!: Maritimes & Newfoundland is a popular tour destination. Many tour companies from around the world offer it and want the same deluxe hotels that we book. Because of the demand, those preferred hotels have strict policies about our commitment to the number of rooms needed and will cancel rooms from our original reservation if they can sell the rooms to other visitors. If this happens, we have to consider the tour full, even though seats are available on the motorcoach. Therefore, waiting too long to book usually means “Sorry, wait until next year.”

  • Flight seating: We are unable to take requests for window or aisle seating on the planes. The airline will not accept them, as group seating is assigned as a block. If this is important to you, we suggest you take the “No Flight” option with a fare reduction of $900 and book your own flight which allows seat selection. You can also use this option if you want to redeem airline points.

  • Flight upgrades: Please enquire about current prices for upgrades on the flights to Halifax and return from St. John’s. Premium economy and business class may be available.

  • Flight delays or cancellations: In the event flights are delayed or cancelled by airlines due to weather or other reasons, there may be additional costs to you. Wells Gray Tours will not pay for hotel rooms and meals during the delay. Most travel insurance policies cover expenses incurred for flight delays.

  • Food Allergies: You must notify us no later than at final payment if you have a food allergy. This tour goes to some remote places where restaurants may not be able to satisfy all food allergies. An allergy causes medical distress, a preference does not. For some allergies, please consider bringing your own snacks or food items so you are not dependent on what restaurants are able to serve.

  • Only 40 travellers: This tour is limited to only 40 travellers in 2026. Early booking is recommended, as there is always a waiting list.

  • Payments: A deposit of $800 per person is requested at the time of booking and the balance is due May 14, 2026. By paying the deposit, you agree to the Terms & Conditions, Activity Level 3 Declaration, and Cancellation Policy outlined. Payments can be made by online banking or cheque (3% discount on tour fare), or by Visa or Mastercard.

  • Cancellation Policy: Up to April 14, 2026, the cancellation charge is $100 per person. From April 15 to May 14, the cancellation charge is $400 per person. From May 15 to June 12, the cancellation charge is 50% of the tour fare. From June 13 to July 14, the cancellation charge is 80% of the tour fare. After July 14, there is no refund.

  • Travel Insurance: A Comprehensive Insurance policy is available through Wells Gray Tours and coverage is provided by Travel Guard. Policies purchased at deposit include a waiver of the pre-existing condition clause for medical and cancellation claims, otherwise policies can be purchased no later than at final payment. This tour stays in Canada, but medical costs can vary wildly from one province to another. While your BC Services Card may partly cover you for a medical issue that arises during the tour, you will probably benefit from trip cancellation and trip interruption coverage in case of illness or a mishap before or during the tour. Many other benefits such as luggage insurance are included. Medical questionnaire is not needed. Please contact us for details. If you have your own travel insurance, please read the policy carefully to be sure that you are adequately covered for medical, cancellation, interruption, and luggage.

One e-point equals $1. Redeem your earned points on select tours or accumulate enough points to earn a free tour! Redemptions offered until May 14, 2026.
