ACTIVITY LEVEL

Level

High Activity: You are an active traveller who wants to explore wherever you go. You don’t mind a mix of full days, early morning starts, and some late nights. The walk to the boat dock for the Western Brook Pond cruise is 45 minutes or 2.7 km each way along a wide and mostly level trail. Other walks could be up to 2 km over uneven surfaces, stairs, beaches, and some trails. Most hotels on this tour  do not have elevators, so your room may be reached by a stairway. You can climb three flights of stairs easily and unassisted and can handle your own luggage in airports or at hotels where luggage handling may not be available.

This tour is not appropriate for people with canes, walkers, wheelchairs, or other mobility assistance devices. Walking poles are recommended. Additionally, this tour is not appropriate for those who have cognitive impairments such as memory loss or confusion, difficulty expressing thoughts, repeating questions, or getting lost. The tour director and driver have many responsibilities, so please do not expect them, or your fellow travellers, to provide ongoing assistance. If you are not capable of keeping up with the group or require frequent assistance, the tour director may stop you from participating in some activities or some days of the tour. In extreme situations, you may be required to leave the tour and travel home at your own expense; travel insurance will probably not cover you. Please read the Activity Level 3 declaration attached to this brochure. By paying the tour deposit, you agree that you are capable of travelling on an Activity Level 3 tour.

This tour is limited to 30 participants, making it a more intimate travel experience.

TOUR NOTES & POLICIES

  • UNTOUCHED & UNSPOILED... WITH PLENTY OF BREATHING ROOM: As Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are fond of saying, this place is about as far from Disneyland as you could possibly get. And yet, we think you will find that it competes as one of the happiest places on earth. The people are extremely proud of their province — Labrador on the mainland and the island of Newfoundland — and are very resilient. Economic hardship has often plagued this land, and yet the people endure and thrive in spite of it, most often with great joy. The natural wonders here are unparalleled, with stark rugged landscapes warmed by a thousand kilometres of shoreline. The history is vibrant, full of stories of adventure and global events and ordinary people doing extraordinary things. This is a journey of popular sights and off the beaten path places, but an experience not soon forgotten. Celebrate your arrival in Newfoundland with a Screech-In Ceremony during the Bonne Bay cruise and be bold enough to kiss the cod. Walk on 500 million year old rocks at Green Point. Admire the soaring cliffs above Western Brook Pond. Be humbled by history at L’Anse aux Meadows, settled by the Vikings about a thousand years ago. Explore two national parks, Gros Morne and Terra Nova, and several national historic sites. Learn about the Newfoundland fishery at Prime Berth Museum. Enjoy superb local entertainment on five evenings. Take boat excursions close to an iceberg at Twillingate and watch thousands of puffins, other seabirds, and whales near St. John’s. Stand on Signal Hill where the first trans-Atlantic wireless message was received in 1901, and look out over the Atlantic from Cape Spear, North America’s easternmost point. The first Wells Gray tour featuring only the province of Newfoundland was in 2022. Our Maritimes & Newfoundland tour has been an annual event since 1978, but this tour provides an in-depth discovery of Canada’s easternmost province. It is an amazing experience amid the wonders of Atlantic Canada.

  • Tour Notes: This in-depth tour is devoted to the Island of Newfoundland. Labrador is part of the Province of Newfoundland, but is not included due to the additional time required. Expect some hotels to have 3-star ratings (not luxurious). Your 3-night stay in St. John’s at the Delta Hotel is the best accommodation. Some communities only have one place to stay such as at Cow Head. Finding available and suitable hotels has dictated this itinerary.

  • Flight seating: We are unable to take requests for window or aisle seating on the planes. The airline will not accept them, as group seating is assigned as a block. If this is important to you, we suggest you take the “No Flight” option with a fare reduction of $840 and book your own flight which allows seat selection.

  • Flight upgrades: Please enquire about current prices for upgrades on the flights to and from Newfoundland. Premium economy or business class may be available.

  • Food Allergies: You must notify us no later than at final payment if you have a food allergy. This tour goes to some remote places in Newfoundland where restaurants may not be able to satisfy all food allergies. An allergy causes medical distress, a preference does not. For some allergies, please consider bringing your own snacks or food items so you are not dependent on what restaurants are able to serve.

  • Payments: A deposit of $700 per person is requested at the time of booking and balance is due February 24, 2026. By paying the deposit, you agree to the Terms & Conditions, Activity Level 3 Declaration, and Cancellation Policy outlined. Payments can be made by online banking or cheque (3% discount on tour fare), or by Visa or Mastercard.

  • Show cancellation: It rarely happens, but performers or singers occasionally get sick, or some mishap causes the cancellation of a show such as one of the five evening shows in Newfoundland. This can occur even shortly before the performance begins. We know that this would be disappointing for our customers, but the only refund we could obtain for you would be the actual ticket price of the show. The hotel, motorcoach, and other tour services are all prepaid and are non-refundable at short notice.

  • Cancellation Policy: Up to January 23, 2026, the cancellation charge is $100 per person. From January 24 to February 24, the cancellation charge is $400 per person. From February 25 to March 24, the cancellation charge is 40% of tour fare. From March 25 to April 24, the cancellation charge is 80% of tour fare. After April 24, there is no refund.

  • Itinerary and Fare Changes: Our many suppliers may notify us about changes to the itinerary prior to departure and sometimes during the tour. We do our best to substitute a similar service if something cancels, but occasionally the only alternative is to provide a refund for the missed activity. Please note that if we are forced to cancel a tour component due to an issue beyond our control, the current penalties still apply if you choose to cancel the entire tour. Fuel surcharges and changes to taxes or other tour costs can occur at any time, therefore Wells Gray Tours reserves the right to increase fares due to such changes up to departure.

  • Flight delays or cancellations: In the event flights are delayed or cancelled by airlines due to weather or other reasons, there may be additional costs to you. Wells Gray Tours will not pay for hotel rooms and meals during the delay. Most travel insurance policies cover expenses incurred for flight delays.

  • Travel Insurance:: A Comprehensive Insurance policy is available through Wells Gray Tours and coverage is provided by Travel Guard. Policies purchased at deposit include a waiver of the pre-existing condition clause for medical and cancellation claims, otherwise policies can be purchased no later than at final payment. This tour stays in Canada, but medical costs can vary wildly from one province to another. While your BC Services Card may partly cover you for a medical issue that arises during the tour, you will probably benefit from trip cancellation and trip interruption coverage in case of illness or a mishap before or during the tour. Many other benefits such as luggage insurance are included. Medical questionnaire is not needed. Please contact us for details. If you have your own travel insurance, please read the policy carefully to be sure that you are adequately covered for medical, cancellation, interruption, and luggage.

  • Experience Points or E-points: This tour earns 191 e-points. Each time you travel on a Wells Gray tour, you earn e-points that are added to your account after the tour returns. One e-point equals $1. Redeem your earned points on select tours or accumulate enough points to earn a free tour! Redemptions offered until February 24, 2026.
