ACTIVITY LEVEL
Level
High Activity: You are an active traveller who wants to explore wherever you go. You don’t mind a mix of full days, early morning starts, and some late nights. Due to the historic nature of many attractions, it will be necessary to climb stairs, walk on uneven surfaces, and frequently walk 1-2 kms without difficulty, plus stand for an extended time on tours of temples and ruins. The walk to the end of Petra and lunch is 4 km on paved or gravel walkways, but an electric cart is arranged for the last 2 km of the return walk uphill. You can opt out of some attractions, but there is no fare reduction. The 4×4 truck ride through Wadi Rum is bumpy. You can climb three flights of stairs easily and unassisted and can handle your own luggage in airports and at hotels where luggage handling may not be available.
This tour is not appropriate for people who require the use of a walker. Walking poles are recommended. Additionally, this tour is not appropriate for those who have cognitive impairments such as memory loss or confusion, difficulty expressing thoughts, repeating questions, or getting lost. The tour director, local guides, and drivers have many responsibilities, so please do not expect them, or your fellow travellers, to provide ongoing assistance. If you are not capable of keeping up with the group or require frequent assistance, the tour director may stop you from participating in some activities or some days of the tour. In extreme situations, you may be required to leave the tour and travel home at your own expense; travel insurance will probably not cover you.
Please read the Activity Level 3 declaration attached to this brochure, sign and email to your Wells Gray office.

This tour is limited to 25 participants, making it a more intimate travel experience.

GOLDEN RELICS AND ANCIENT CULTURES: The ancient lands of Egypt and Jordan are a world of wonder — a window to a long past age of extravagance, massive wealth, and ample acts of tribute. The stunning, colossal monuments of ancient Egypt never fail to astonish, now highlighted by the magnificent Grand Egyptian Museum. A romantic cruise on part of the world's longest river dazzles the senses. The people are intriguing as they create a modern future while embracing the traditions and lessons of the past. In Jordan, where tradition and modernism colourfully collide, stories of long ago emerge from preserved ruins like awe-inspiring Petra or the extraordinary Roman settlement at Jerash. The vitality of the people, secure in their leadership and surrounded by change, is inspiring.
-
Documentation: A passport is required, valid for 6 months after return date. Visas are required for Egypt and Jordan. The Egyptian visa is handled by the local tour operator on our behalf and the cost is included in the tour fare; we will notify you in ample time if this procedure changes. The Jordanian visa is obtained at Amman airport upon arrival for the whole group and is currently free.
-
Your Safety: The Canadian government has a standard travel advisory for Egypt and Jordan – “Exercise a high degree of caution.” This is good advice for many countries such as Italy, France, and Ecuador, just to give a reference. It is hard not to look like a tourist, but avoid wearing expensive jewellery and carrying a purse or wallet that is easy to steal. All hotels have safes (in your room or at the front desk) and you are urged to use them for your passport, credit cards, and cash. You have a huge advantage travelling in a group with a local guide who is knowledgeable about risky places to visit and always has your safety in mind.
-
Currency & Expenses: Two currencies are used on this tour. The Egyptian pound had an exchange rate in February 2026 of about $1 CAN = 34 EGP (a bargain because in 2022 you got 12 EGP). The currency in Jordan is the Dinar and $1 CAN = 0.5 JOD. Visa and Mastercard are accepted in most places, but expect to pay cash in markets and smaller towns. ATMs are common and you will need a 4-digit PIN. Many items are cheaper than in Canada, except for liquor which is very expensive – wine is generally poor quality and over $30 a bottle; a beer can be $15. Gratuities have been included for all meals and for guides, drivers and boat crew in Egypt and Jordan.

-
Weather: November is one of the best times to be here as it is fall. Expect temperatures to be warm or hot and dry, around 20-30°C, although it will be cooler in the northern areas and always cool at night in the desert.
-
Beverages: It is not standard practice to include beverages with meals anywhere along this tour. Your tour director will purchase bottles of water for every included meal. Other beverages are at your expense.
-
Flight upgrades: Please enquire about current prices for upgrades on the flights from Vancouver to Cairo and return from Amman. Premium economy and business class may be available. The domestic flights do not have upgrades available.
-
Flight seating: We are unable to take requests for window or aisle seating on the planes. The airline will not accept them, as group seating is assigned as a block. If this is important to you, we suggest you take the “No Flight” option with a fare reduction of $1,850 and book your own flight which allows seat selection. Please refer to our Terms & Conditions for further information on your responsibilities when choosing the “No Flight” option.
-
Flight delays or cancellations: In the event flights are delayed or cancelled by airlines due to weather or other reasons, there may be additional costs to you. Wells Gray Tours will not pay for hotel rooms and meals during the delay. Most travel insurance policies cover expenses incurred for flight delays.
-
Food Allergies: You must notify us no later than at final payment if you have a food allergy. This tour goes to some places where restaurants may not be able to satisfy all food allergies. An allergy causes medical distress, a preference does not. For some allergies, please consider bringing your own snacks or food items so you are not dependent on what restaurants are able to serve.
-
Rooms for singles: are often a different style or smaller size than twin rooms. Many hotels limit the number of single rooms allocated to a group. Please book early if you prefer to travel single.
-
Triples: Triples are not available on this tour.
-
Payments: A deposit of $1,000 per person is requested at time of booking and the balance is due July 2, 2026. By paying the deposit, you agree to the Terms & Conditions, Activity Level 3 Declaration, and Cancellation Policy outlined. Payments can be made by online banking or cheque (3% discount on tour fare), or by Visa or Mastercard.
-
Discounts: Early bookers receive a $200 discount on the first 8 seats and $100 on the next 4 seats for booking early with deposit. The discount is not offered after July 2, 2026.
-
Cancellation Policy: Up to June 2, 2026, the cancellation charge is $100 per person. From June 3 to July 2, the cancellation charge is $400 per person. From July 3 to September 2, the cancellation charge is 50% of the tour fare. From September 3 to October 2, the cancellation charge is 80% of the tour fare. After October 2, there is no refund.
-
Itinerary and Fare Changes: Our many suppliers may notify us about changes to the itinerary prior to departure and sometimes during the tour. We do our best to substitute a similar service if something cancels, but occasionally the only alternative is to provide a refund for the missed activity. Please note that if we are forced to cancel a tour component due to an issue beyond our control, the current penalties still apply if you choose to cancel the entire tour. Fuel surcharges and changes to taxes, currency exchange rates, or other tour costs can occur at any time, therefore Wells Gray Tours reserves the right to increase fares due to such changes up to departure.
-
Travel Insurance: A Comprehensive Insurance policy is available through Wells Gray Tours and coverage is provided by Travel Guard. Policies purchased at deposit include a waiver of the pre-existing condition clause for medical and cancellation claims, otherwise policies can be purchased no later than at final payment. Medical questionnaire is not needed. Please contact us for details. If you have your own travel insurance, please read the policy carefully to be sure that you are adequately covered for medical, cancellation, interruption, and luggage. Please do not travel outside Canada without medical insurance as a minimum.
