Mystery Tour

This is Wells Gray Tours’ 64th Mystery Tour since 1985 and the 41st year. The first Mystery Tour was only three days and travelled to Whistler. During these 41 years of Mystery Tours, they have been offered once or twice a year and have taken curious customers to destinations all over Canada, the USA, and even Iceland and Costa Rica. We never tell you where you will go or what you will see. You may be amazed when the coach pulls up beside a cruise ship or a train, or you look at your boarding pass for the flight destination, or you arrive at a unique hotel. This fall Mystery Tour was an idea that came to Rachel Komori while taking appointments from tourism organizations at the National Tour Association convention in November 2025 and she figured it would be a really interesting Mystery. You will travel by planes, a motorcoach, and a boat. Add some Canadian themed museums, two cultural experiences, a venerable hotel, and a famous place for aviation to get a very special tour experience. Enough hints for now!

Moderate Activity: As a traveller you like a variety of activities and walking up to 2 km with breaks such as a guided walking tour is very doable for you without assistance. You can stand for prolonged periods and can climb two flights of stairs without assistance. Please be aware that on tours with flights you must handle your own luggage and walk longer distances in airports. You may need to carry your own luggage at a hotel if luggage service is not available.

You may bring a cane or walking poles if needed, but a walker is not appropriate. The coaches cannot carry a scooter or motorized wheelchair. The tour director and driver have many responsibilities, so please do not expect them, or your fellow travellers, to provide ongoing assistance. If you are not capable of keeping up with the group or require frequent assistance, the tour director may stop you from participating in some activities or some days of the tour.

TOUR NOTES & POLICIES

  • SPECIFIC MYSTERY TOUR CLUES: Here are six clues to the mystery route. These clues are arranged in the order that they occur on the itinerary. Pore over maps, use the Internet, try a search engine (we’ve already checked that the answers are not obvious) and, most important, have fun guessing where we’re going! 1. The stone people mingle along colourful waters near two famous Canadian streets. 2. The walls of this Gibraltar stronghold hosted traders and beavers, but its replacement hosted only the elite. 3. Powerful engines rest in polished silence while stories of courage lift off without ever leaving the ground. 4. Winged travellers relax on a bed tied between the oaks overlooking still waters. 5. A Prime Minister’s namesake created an enduring legend while Icelandic spectators were awed by silent wings interrupting their games. 6. Stand by the shores of the A & W lakes, but one of them no longer exists and the other has no burgers for sale.

  • Passport: A passport is not required for this tour, but you must have government-issued photo ID for the flights.

  • Itinerary: Wells Gray Tours has never previously offered this itinerary and never stayed at these hotels.

  • Transportation: You will travel by airplanes, a motorcoach, and a boat.

  • Suggested Attire: A letter about suggested attire plus packing and travelling tips will be provided at final payment.

  • Clues:: Please submit your answer to Clue #1 a week before departure. Send to the office or travel agency where you booked.

  • Payments: A deposit of $500 per person is requested at the time of booking and the balance is due June 25, 2026. By paying the deposit, you agree to the Terms & Conditions, Activity Level, and Cancellation Policy outlined. Payments can be made by online banking or cheque (3% discount on tour fare), or by Visa or Mastercard.

  • Cancellation Policy: Up to May 25, 2026, the cancellation charge is $100 per person. From May 26 to June 25, the cancellation charge is $300 per person. From June 26 to July 24, the cancellation charge is 50% of the tour fare. From July 25 to August 7, the cancellation charge is 80% of the tour fare. After August 7, there is no refund.

  • Fare Changes: Changes to taxes and surcharges from tour suppliers can occur at any time and are beyond the control of Wells Gray Tours, therefore, we reserve the right to increase fares due to such changes up until the time of departure. The itinerary could change before or during the tour, but since this is a Mystery Tour, you won’t know if we had to change something!

  • Flight seating: We are unable to take requests for window or aisle seating on the planes. The airline will not accept them, as group seating is assigned as a block.

  • Flight upgrades: Please enquire about current prices for upgrades on the flights. Premium economy and business class may be available.

  • Flight delays or cancellations: In the event flights are delayed or cancelled by airlines due to weather or other reasons, there may be additional costs to you. Wells Gray Tours will not pay for hotel rooms and meals during the delay. Check that your travel insurance policy has a flight delay benefit because that is usually your best recourse for recouping additional flight or hotel costs.

  • Food Allergies: You must notify us no later than at final payment if you have a food allergy. Some restaurants may not be able to satisfy all food allergies. An allergy causes medical distress, a preference does not. For some allergies, please consider bringing your own snacks or food items so you are not dependent on what restaurants are able to serve.

  • Travel Insurance: A Comprehensive Insurance policy is available through Wells Gray Tours and coverage is provided by Travel Guard. Policies purchased at deposit include a waiver of the pre-existing condition clause for medical and cancellation claims, otherwise policies can be purchased no later than at final payment. This tour stays in Canada, but medical costs can vary wildly from one province/territory to another. While your BC Services Card may partly cover you for a medical issue that arises during the tour, you will probably benefit from trip cancellation and trip interruption coverage in case of illness or a mishap before or during the tour. Many other benefits such as luggage insurance are included. Medical questionnaire is not needed. Please contact us for details. If you have your own travel insurance, please read the policy carefully to be sure that you are adequately covered for medical, cancellation, interruption, and luggage.

  • Experience Points or E-points: This tour earns 105 e-points. Each time you travel on a Wells Gray tour, you earn e-points that are added to your account after the tour returns. One e-point equals $1. Redeem your earned points on select tours or accumulate enough points to earn a free tour! Redemptions offered until June 25, 2026.
