TOUR SUMMARY

Ride the last train from Jasper via Quesnel to Vancouver

Climb aboard the Rocky Mountaineer, a world-renowned luxury train journey through the breathtaking landscapes between Jasper, Quesnel, Whistler, and Vancouver. Travelling by daylight with two hotel stays, this iconic rail experience offers panoramic views of soaring mountains, the mighty Fraser River, and verdant forests. Along the way, you will enjoy ever-changing scenery, from the rugged Cariboo region to the dramatic Coast Mountains, with opportunities to spot wildlife and take in remote landscapes few travellers experience. All guests are travelling with GoldLeaf service and enjoy gourmet cuisine, glass-dome coach, and award-winning service, while learning about the rich history of the region and the legendary Canadian National and British Columbia Railways. With the convenience of a Wells Gray Tours package, we provide transportation to Jasper and home from Vancouver. Sadly, this train excursion will be the last because CN is abandoning the rail line after 2026. Come and join Wells Gray for this nostalgic farewell journey.

TOUR NOTES & POLICIES

  • Rocky Mountaineer: The Rocky Mountaineer train is a world-renowned luxury rail experience that began operations in 1990 along the Canadian Pacific and Canadian National main lines. Later the British Columbia Railway and CN lines were added between North Vancouver and Jasper, reviving a historic route that was once called the Pacific Great Eastern Railway. This line started construction in 1912 and was intended to connect the Grand Trunk Railway at Prince George with tidewater at Vancouver. Soon after construction started, the Grand Trunk and Canadian Northern railways went bankrupt and were taken over by the federal government under Canadian National Railway. This gave the Grand Trunk a Vancouver connection and the P.G.E. was unnecessary. The British Columbia government attempted to complete the half-finished railway, but in 1921, construction stopped at Quesnel due to lack of funds and the challenge of bridging the Cottonwood River. BC then had a railway that started nowhere (Squamish) and ended nowhere (Quesnel). The railway finally reached the Peace River in 1958. The Rocky Mountaineer has transformed this historic journey into a three-day daylight adventure featuring glass-dome coaches, gourmet meals, and onboard storytelling. Guests experience Yellowhead Pass, soaring Mount Robson, hundreds of kilometres of the mighty Fraser River, the depths of Moran Canyon, historic mileposts of the Gold Rush, and the resort town of Whistler, while hearing tales of railway pioneers and gold seekers. Today, the train not only celebrates Canada’s railway legacy, but also offers an immersive way to experience the awesome beauty of British Columbia. Everybody is booked in GoldLeaf Service which features a bi-level glass-domed coach with seating on the upper level providing panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. Guests enjoy gourmet à la carte meals prepared by an onboard culinary team, served in a dedicated lower-level dining room, with premium beverages. There is a large outdoor viewing platform. GoldLeaf includes engaging commentary from knowledgeable hosts, highlighting the rich history and natural beauty along the route.

  • Importance of early booking: The Rocky Mountaineer is a very popular tourist service, attracting travellers from all over the world for this unique journey. The train has strict policies about our commitment to the number of seats needed and will cancel seats from our reservation if they can sell to other visitors. Since CN announced in 2026 that it was abandoning the Prince George to North Vancouver line, the final year of Rocky Mountaineer service has been heavily booked. Wells Gray Tours was fortunate to get seats on the final train leaving Jasper on October 6. Please book early for this farewell journey!

  • Rocky Mountaineer train delays: Rail travel in North America is subject to unforeseen delays, therefore arrival and departure times are approximate and cannot be guaranteed. While Rocky Mountaineer is treated as a priority on the train tracks it uses, delays do occur. In the rare event of a mishap involving another train, there can be significant delays and substitute motorcoach transportation may be used.

  • Food Allergies: You must notify us no later than at final payment if you have a food allergy. An allergy causes medical distress, a preference does not. For some allergies, please consider bringing your own snacks or food items so you are not dependent on what restaurants are able to serve.

  • V L Flight delays or cancellations: In the event flights are delayed or cancelled by airlines due to weather or other reasons, there may be additional costs to you. Wells Gray Tours will not pay for hotel rooms and meals during the delay. Most travel insurance policies cover expenses incurred for flight delays

  • Payments: A deposit of $500 per person is requested at the time of booking and balance is due July 22, 2026. By paying the deposit, you agree to the Terms & Conditions, Activity Level, and Cancellation Policy outlined. Payments can be made by online banking or cheque (3% discount on tour fare), or by Visa or Mastercard.

  • Early Booking Bonus: Receive a $100 discount on the first 12 seats and $50 on the next 8 seats for booking early with deposit. The discount is not offered after July 22, 2026.

  • Cancellation Policy: Up to June 22, 2026, the cancellation charge is $100 per person. From June 23 to July 22, the cancellation charge is $300 per person. From July 23 to August 21, the cancellation charge is 60% of the tour fare. After August 21, there is no refund.

  • Itinerary and Fare Changes: Our many suppliers may notify us about changes to the itinerary prior to departure and sometimes during the tour. We do our best to substitute a similar service if something cancels, but occasionally the only alternative is to provide a refund for the missed activity. Please note that if we are forced to cancel a tour component due to an issue beyond our control, the current penalties still apply if you choose to cancel the entire tour. Fuel surcharges and changes to taxes or other tour costs can occur at any time, therefore Wells Gray Tours reserves the right to increase fares due to such changes up to departure.

  • Travel Insurance: A Comprehensive Insurance policy is available through Wells Gray Tours and coverage is provided by Travel Guard. Policies purchased at deposit include a waiver of the pre-existing condition clause for medical and cancellation claims, otherwise policies can be purchased no later than at final payment. This tour stays in Canada, but medical costs can vary a lot from one province to another. While your BC Services Card may partly cover you for a medical issue that arises during the tour, you will probably benefit from trip cancellation and trip interruption coverage in case of illness or a mishap before or during the tour. Many other benefits such as luggage insurance are included. Medical questionnaire is not needed. Please contact us for details. If you have your own travel insurance, please read the policy carefully to be sure that you are adequately covered for medical, cancellation, interruption, and luggage.
